Description

It's very rare to see a harpy, and it seems that there's one not far from the distillery on the Isle of Islay, and it's more easily seen when you go in search of it with a bottle in your hand ;) This rare creature inspired the first edition of this Anthology collection from the Ardbeg distillery. A 13-year-old single malt from a marriage of whiskies aged in Sauternes wine casks and bourbon barrels.

Tasting notes of the distillery: On the nose, very distinctively oily, with touches of olive oil, sweet briar wood, aromatic herbs (coriander & sage) and a suggestion of smoked lemon peel. On the palate, a soft, oily, mouthcoating texture leads into a rich, sweet, smoky palate, with hints of oak moss, treacle, aniseed lozenges and a lovely, sweet, woody/balsamic flavour. This is then followed by smoked apricots and eucalyptus oil. The finish is sweet and smoky, with a touch of cumin, cardamon and the merest hint of coconut.
