Named after a famously dark and peaty loch overlooked by the distillery Kilchoman, Loch Gorm is a peated single malt (50 ppm) matured exclusively in oloroso sherry butts from the bodega José y Miguel Martín, extracting the rich spicy character of the European oak as it ages in the distillery warehouses on Islay. This 2021 edition of Loch Gorm is a vatting of 24 oloroso sherry butts filled in 2011 and 2012.
Tasting notes of the distillery: On the nose, wood smoke, cardamom and dark berries with waves of caramel and fudge sweetness. On the palate raisins, figs and poached pears give way to mixed spices, barbequed bacon and maritime peat smoke. The finish layers on chocolate, stoned fruits and warming peat smoke.
