There are only a handful of distilleries in Scotland that have the right to use “Royal” in their name and Brackla was the first in 1833. The royal warrant from King William IV allowed the distillery to gain recognition in the capital under the name of the “King's Own Whisky”. Ever since its origins and in order to keep its style, the distillery uses local barley and a long fermentation to create its whisky. This single malt matured for 12 years in bourbon casks benefits from a rich finish in Oloroso sherry butts.
