Named after a famously dark and peaty loch overlooked by the distillery Kilchoman, Loch Gorm is a peated single malt (50 ppm) matured exclusively in oloroso sherry casks from the bodega José y Miguel Martín, extracting the rich spicy character of the European oak as it ages in the distillery warehouses on Islay. This 2022 edition of Loch Gorm is a vatting of 22 oloroso sherry casks in which the whisky has been aged for at least 8 years.
Tasting notes of the distillery: On the nose, intense sweet pipe smoke, followed by waves of freshly cut strawberries and candied lemon peel then lighter notes of orange blossoms, soft toffee and cloves. On the palate, initial note of dark chocolate and toasted walnuts, gentle tobacco smokiness, hints of caramel and dates accompanied by subtle warming peat smoke. The finish is long and evolving with cinnamon and liquorice wood, chocolate bitters and lingering earthy smoke.
