Description
Pokeno is a young New Zealand distillery founded in 2017 located about fifty kilometres south of Auckland on the North Island. With a focus on terroir, the distillery uses barley from the South Island, a long 80-hour fermentation and slow distillation that characterise its whisky. For this edition, it's a partnership with the Behemoth brewery, which used Pokeno's casks to age their Monk Like Mary Belgian Quadrupel Ale for 5 months before returning the beer-impregnated cask to once again receive the whisky, which had been fully matured in first-fill bourbon casks. The flavours of the rich, fruity beer, with aromas of lightly roasted speciality malts, dried fruit, Belgian candy sugar and discreet spices, combine with the gentle citrus notes of the whisky.
