The Boann distillery has been operating in the Boyne Valley, some fifty kilometres north of Dublin, since 2016. This whiskey is made with malted and unmalted barley, oats and rye, 100% sourced from local farmers. Initially matured in heavily charred ex-bourbon American oak casks from Brown Forman in Kentucky, the whiskey is then refined in ex-Madeira casks from Justino's Madeira Wine.
Tasting notes from the distillery: On the nose, vibrant with aromas of apples and peaches, followed by notes of honey and toasted oak spices, with a touch of floral fragrances in the background. Velvety on the palate, with peaches and vanilla cream, nuts and dried fruit cake. The finish is long and lively, oily, lemony and spicy.
