Description
This molasses rum originated in Guyana and was distilled in 2001 using the old local wooden double pot still from the Port Mourant distillery founded in 1732. It's a small batch of 4 barrels that matured in Guyana and Europe for 18 years in second-fill bourbon barrels. It was bottled in 2019 for an edition of 732 bottles.
Tasting notes from the bottler: an aromatic, oily rum with lots of ester. It warms with enveloping notes of beeswax, very mineral and almost smoky. This is followed by notes of white flour, ripe fruits, cloves and aromatic plants such as gentian, chamomile and cola nut. The addition of water makes the flavours even more intense and extravagant, with black pepper, aniseed and liquorice. Despite its intensity and its dry character, it remains surprisingly rounded and mouth-coating.
