This whisky is a blend of the two malt distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo which commemorates the founder of Nikka, Masataka Taketsuru, who is also known as the first Japanese to have studied whisky making in Scotland and to have brought this know-how back to Japan.
Tasting notes of the distillery: On the nose, fruity, marked by citrus notes with orange but also a fatter side with the juicy pear. Complex and expressive, the nose evolves and reveals slightly herbaceous notes with a hint of peat and a slight bitterness as it goes from orange to grapefruit. On the palate, round and full of delicacy. Cereal aromas alongside sweet spice with an ounce of cardamom. At the same time, candied fruit notes appear with a more assertive character giving depth and length. Finish, In line with the palate, a slight bitterness arrives with peat in all discretion which tends almost to a full-bodied dark chocolate.
