The Springbank Distillery is a must for any whisky lovers, especially when looking for authenticity and hand-made by craftsmen. The Local Barley is an annual edition made from barley grown in or around Campbeltown. For this edition, it's High Ranachan Farm with the Bere Barley variety. This single malt was distilled in July 2016 and bottled in December 2024. The casks used to mature this whisky are 50% bourbon and 50% Sherry.
Tasting notes from the distillery: On the nose, notes of cracked black pepper, cigar box and sage introduce the local Bere Barley. On the palate, there are notes of shortbread and salted caramel, as well as a herbaceous note of basil. The finish is long and sweet, with hints of toffee standing out.
